You know, Items! Empty You know, Items!

    This is difficult.

Will the puzzles be based on items?
Will the items be based on the landscape?
    Everything is so close together.....

    Let's make a start.

We NEED a sword (plus upgrades later on!)
Some shields and maybe an instrument too?

    Other things we need:

Some items you will need to solve puzzles and somehow you can't get past them right away, therefore you will not be able to go everywhere right away.

Some items like these for the original Zelda's:

Sword, kept you from going through bushes
Bracelet, kept you from bushes and more importantly, rocks
Hookshot, cross large gaps you can jump
    Flippers, swim boy!
    And more.....

    You get the picture.

Also, I really liked the 'enter dungeon, get item, beat the boss' thingey. Small portions each time seem to be a good strategy...

I think some variation of Roc's Feather and Pegasus Boots needs to be included.

Also I would like to see all the items be useful throughout the whole game not just the dungeon you find them in.

    Is that possible?
Maybe the feather is kinda difficult to program? Can we do that?
The running shoes are butt, I liked the iron boots from OoT too!

You know, Items! Empty Awesome stuff

Post  ClassicGamer Sat Nov 28, 2009 8:01 pm

Great, so there are basically no limits! Yay!
I'll try if I can come up with some more tools/items this weekend.

What items did blow your mind?
What items do you think should go?
What items could be changed or improved?

The Gustjar! That surprised me. I saw a drawing (official artwork) of Link with another item that made whirlwinds, problably in one of the newer DS Zelda games (Haven't played them yet).

The boomerang? Always were quite weak anyway... After the new DS Zelda (and the 3D surroundings of OoT, for example), it's hard to make this tool more usefull.

Bombs? I'm not sure. Bombs are quite butt and they always bring that cool tune when you blow up a wall. Thing is, if you replace this for another items, you lose the limited amount of bombs to carry, which always was the hard part of using them, you could run out of bombs. It would take away the fun to bash walls with another tool I think?!

    Discuss!

Remember they have to be from a Zelda game.

Also I just found out on LTTP you can run to break the cracked walls. :O

You know, Items! Empty Post delayed...

    Ah shucks!
I had a very long, quality post... and Internet Explorer jams suddenly. I'll post my thoughts on items a bit later, as I don't want to type it out twice in a row...

I was comparing and checking out all items on the item screen.
I'll do it again tonigh or tomorrow.

You know, Items! Empty still not what I meant to say...

Post  ClassicGamer Tue Dec 01, 2009 8:19 pm

This is not what I wrote last time, I put this down quickly befre I forget...

I had this weird idea of Tingle giving you three special balloons as an item. These balloons contain spirits (or something, at least they have powers), to give you special abilities from the three extra races from Majora's Mask.

Hold the balloon and walk through an whirlwind to go high in the air.
Use these to cross gaps and to do a ground pound type move (downstab??)

Throw things down while you are above enemies, like the deku nuts. Use bombs for this?

Use the balloons to travel the water, swamp or quicksand desert, while not sinking?

I don't know. Something like this? Sounds a bit weird and far fetched, but at least it has multiple purposes.
Just like the MoleMits are better than the Shovel?

You know, Items! Empty Running shoes and walls?

Post  ClassicGamer Tue Dec 01, 2009 8:23 pm

    By the way...

I have never seen any wall that broke down with that trick.
I remembered someone (in game) told me that little secret, I could never get it to work...

I even started a new game and tried on wall already demolished...
I have never seen it work. Never!

Just like having butterflies sit on your dekustick in OoT...
I've never seen that, even after playing ocarina tunes, different times, day and night.... before growing up, after... It wouldn't work anyway...

You know, Items! Empty Roc's feather variation.

Post  ClassicGamer Tue Dec 01, 2009 8:29 pm

Personally, I liked the butt feather better than the cape in the Minish Cap. That one was fun and cool to use the fans to make very big leaps, but it was somewhat difficult to control (to do anything besides jumping the specific holes to proceed in the dungeon).

The feather (that I know from Links Awakening - GB), became a good tool to use for dodging attacks and I think I used it more than the Gameboy shield.

How about a shrinking potion that you need to make from a mushroom in the forest like in a link to the past but instead of it making thinks into fairy it makes you smaller so that you can go in to the corrupt fairy kingdom dungeon. I think that wuld be cool Smile

And also a rope so that you can climb up on small/ medium mountain sides like in zelda 1 on nes. and maby a goron dungeon or something for that.

I also thought that a magic hourglas so that you go back in time almost like the magic mirror (light/dark realm9) in a link to the past wuld be cinda cool.

    You know, Items! Empty good

It would work well too, we then swap the mushroom (shrinking-item) slot for the dungeon treasure.

I always wondered where he kept that ladder and the raft he was carrying around... a rope suits fine to his itembag.

A Link to to Past = time travel + butt top view from the past
Yes, we need to travel between worlds (I think anyway)

How about the Worn Out Glove from BS Legend of Zelda: Ancient Stone Tablets?

It can only lift one boulder per screen, to get past more then one boulder you need the Power Glove.

I also think the Hover Boots from Oot should make a return, and they allow you to cross 3 square wide holes. Couldbe used to cross gaps to get to new areas, get across a pothole field, fight a boss on a pothole field, make really narrow paths easier etc.
