The land of Hyrule or not? Empty The land of Hyrule or not?

Should we stick to this landscape, which could be altered slightly, or do we go to another fantasyland like Termina or Koholint Island, or do we create a new world?

I think we should get the story and the characters going, the map will logically follow.

I like the land of Hyrule as the setting. But if we could work it into the story it would be fun to include Termina as well.

To throw out some starting ideas for dungeons we could have water themed, earth themed, air themed, and fire themed dungeons. And I think the dungeons should be designed in such a way that players will have to use the items in varying combinations.

The land of Hyrule or not? Empty The Link with the past?

Post  ClassicGamer Sat Nov 28, 2009 7:51 pm

Do we have a link with A Link to the Past? Or another Zelda?
Like, Majora's Mask is preferrably played after Ocarina of Time?

Do we place it at a certain point in the total Hyrule story/timeline?
Are we young or grown-up Link? Is, for example, the land flooded already?

I am playing the Minish Cap for the first time right now.
I'm not really far: I've got the frist two elements.
Anyway, that game is cool! This game tells us where you got your green hat from.... that's sick! You think we could do something alike?

Can we touch those story things? Or do we, by all means stay clear of anything Nintedo might put in their stories? It's easy to mess up on the complete story and timeline (It's a mess already, but nothing is impossible yet)

    Characters I like:
Link to play with (I kid you not), I could go without Zelda or Ganon.
Tingle (I mean, who wouldn't think he's cool)

Lots of others of course...., but we can't include everybody.
But I like have all those characters to come back once in a while.
It's always good to see Anju or Malon...

    This will be huge

    It can include anything

No certain place on the time-line.

(I also just started playing Minish Cap and also have 2 elements)

The land of Hyrule or not? Empty Size....

Post  ClassicGamer Sun Nov 29, 2009 6:29 pm

Do we already have a set resolution and color depth?
How large is the whole playing screen? 1024 x 768?

What size do characters appear? .... you know, how large?

    Link 16x24

The screen is really small now, because i'm using the original sprite sizes. There will be this size, x2, x4 and x8. That's what i'm thinking so far.

Games with it zoomed out look cheap and the player can see too mush in my opinion.

I'm no good with this, so...

Link will be 16 x 24 pixels, just like common enemies and items?
Or are items smaller, like 16x16?
x2 would be 32x48 pixels, right?
x2, would be used for ? doors, eniemies bigger than Link?
    x4 for ?, x8 for houses?

Could you explain a little more?

    Also,
Where did you get the original sprites and images?
Could I get one in the same size?
Like, if I would change something in the set, so you could import things right away?

If I would want you to, say, try out, test or use an image I adjusted or butt in any way... How would I save it? What type of image, which resolution?

Don't you mean zooming IN on the screen? Too much zooming out can have side effects too, but would it happen?
What do you want to zoom in or out on?

Link is 16x24 however every other tile will be
    16x16.

    Example of characters: http://www.spriters-resource.com/snes/zeldalinkpast/sheet/7587
I can load these in as an animation (This is however not how I will arrange them)

    Example of Tiles:http://www.spriters-resource.com/snes/zeldalinkpast/sheet/7633
Look closely at this map and you will be able to tell it is just a lot of 16x16 tiles placed together. I will be doing the same using a real Tile engine like Zelda not just pictures drawn over pictures.

The game resolution is 352x224, I was thinking of the same exact picture stretched to 704x448. I do nt want it to be blurry but this will make it bigger on screen and more room for the text which will not be stretched.

Oh,... does everything has to fit in tiles?
So the game is tiles ONLY?

Or can we just put some extra graphics of any size into another layer or something? For example having something like the big leaves in minish roads, hanging all over your screen.

So how would a simple object be made?
For example, a grave. You can push it from the bottom and it slides open gently...

Would that be 4 titles to make a grave and then have two tiles (or one mirrored tile) to make the headstone, which can be moved and animated on it's own?

I think a 352x224 enlarged to 704x448 is a good size to play.
You think you can stuff the textbars and the multiplayer things in the black border?

    The whole game is tiles.

However since i'm using my own engine I can move the objects anywhere.

So 1 tomb, 1 head. Then I can move them.
